Homework from IAAC Fundamentals of Animal Behavior and Learning .
STRUCTURE (or Topography) = What the behavior looks like, sounds like, etc. This is observable and measurable. The structure of a behavior can have many different functions. Context!
FUNCTION (or Reinforcer) = What the behavior is for. The specific purpose of the behavior that motivates the behavior. There can be different structures/topographies of behavior for the same Function.
LABEL (or Hypothetical Construct) = A convenient summary to communicate how we feel about the behavior. A label cannot tell us what the structure or function of the behavior is; cannot accurately describe or explain a behavior.
